Battle Legends' is an original story of two young brothers who are transported back to a medieval fantasy time with Orcs, paladins and dragons with only their wits, skill and a large amount of luck to keep them alive, it then chronicles their tales as they try to find a way back home.
With the release of Episode One I now plan on creating Episode Two, however I am still in the pre-production stage as I am still finalizing the animatic before I dive into model making/updating, animation, etc. So a release date it still not set.
Below are a few images of the concepts that I have been working on, some of them are simple hand drawn images whereas some have been fleshed out with colours and such, these help as a starting point so I know how the various elements in the production are going to look before I delve into the CG models.
You may view the images by simply clicking on their thumbnails, you can even scroll through each picture by using your arrow keys on your keyboard. |
"Battle Legends Episode One Poster" - Digital Painting by Leo Tierney (2011)
This is the poster for the release of Episode One of Battle Legends to help people understand what the episode is about before they get to watch it.

"Movie Poster Concept" - Digital Painting by Leo Tierney (2011)
For the upcoming release of the Battle Legends I decided it would be a good idea to have some sort of poster to publisize the episodes, and so after a few iteration I decided to opt for a comic book feel with the characters in silhouette keeping the characters mysterious. However after careful thinking I realised that not many people would understand what the series was about by looking at the poster, which made the posters role meaningless. So I decided to update the design and create a different version.

"Orc Concept" - Digital Painting by Leo Tierney (2010)
I created this image recently as I was beginning to start modeling an Orc character, however I wanted to jot down some ideas onto paper before I plunged headlong into polygons.

"Orc Axe Concept" - Digital Drawing by Leo Tierney (2009)
This is a concept drawing of what I thought the Orc warriors would wield during combat, the head attached to the top of the shaft is what I thought the Orcs would use to intimidate the enemy or as a trophy.

"Magical Disc Concept" - Digital Drawing by Leo Tierney (2009)
The Magical Disk is a powerful artifact in the Battle Legends universe that was created by the dragons, which is why I tried to implement the look of dragon spirits somewhere beneath its surface.

"Town Concept" - Digital Drawing by Leo Tierney (2009)
I created this image from a rough 3d model of the keep so I could easily trace the outlines and add in extra bits of detail. At the moment this is still a WIP as I intend to go back and add in much more detail.
|
"Stump Sword Concept" - Digital Drawing by Leo Tierney (2009)
During the course of the story a notable Orc has his lower arm cut off in a fight and decides to attach a blade to it instead of leaving it as a useless appendage. I first thought that the Orc would have snapped the blade off a human weapon and the belts coming from his other human foes.
|
"Marcus Concept" - Digital Drawing by Leo Tierney (2009)
Marcus is one of the main characters in the Battle Legends story and so I wanted to get his overall shape down first and make him recognizable. This image is still a WIP and was only created to get the definitions in place before I went in and started adding details.

"Sword Concept" - Digital Drawing by Leo Tierney (2009)
This is a concept I did for one of the holy swords that the main characters retrieve when they first become apprentice paladins. Along the spine of the blade there are holy runes to further empower the blade, where the nice blue fabric on the hilt gives a nice grip.
|
"Hammer Concept" - Digital Drawing by Leo Tierney (2009)
The paladins in the Battle Legends story are all equipped with special war hammers that help channel their holy powers against their enemies, and so I drew a few concepts of different war hammer designs to show their power and holiness. This was in fact the first concept I created for Battle Legends while I was still coming up with the script.
|
"Dunther Concept" - Digital Drawing by Leo Tierney (2009)
'Dunther' is one of the more prominent secondary characters in the Battle Legends story and so I thought it would be best to conceptualize him to see how he can stand out from the rest. While this image may not be a final design for the character it does show what I generally wanted for in a paladin character.

"Lucius Concept" - Hand Drawn by Leo Tierney (2009)
'Lucius' is the leader of all paladins and is thus the most powerful paladin, the way I tried to show this is by still having him clad in standard paladin armour but with a few accessories such as double shoulder plates and a big billowing cape that is strapped on with the insignia of the holy paladin order.
|
"Julian Concept" - Hand-drawn by Leo Tierney (2009)
'Julian' is a main character in the Battle Legends story and I wanted him to be pretty much the opposite of his brother Marcus by making him rounder in this concept drawing.
|
"Dragon Concept" - Hand-drawn by Leo Tierney (2009)
Dragons are pretty standard in fantasy stories and Battle Legends is no different. Since this is only a test I didn't start out by assigning him a character as I only wanted the overall feel of the dragon form for later on, I also added in the rough human figure to get a general size on how big these behemoths should stand.
